2023 Lions International District A15 Convention

April 14,15,16

Lionism means different things to different people at different times. “We Serve” is the motto of Lions that focuses the community we live in. Sometimes the community is very local (i.e. supporting local Lion Parks or sponsoring minor sports); sometimes the community is Provincial or National (i.e. supporting Diabetes research); sometimes the community is international (collecting used glasses for re-purposing in Latin America). World wide Lions is a huge organization with over 1.4 million members in 48,000 clubs in over 200 countries. Lions Clubs have 5 Global Causes that we support: diabetes; vision; hunger; environment and childhood cancer. The heart of the organization are clubs in local communities.

Like any national or international organization the local club has a lot of autonomy, but they also have ties to the larger structure. District A 15 has over 50 clubs that range from Marsville in the north, Freelton to the East, Ingersol to the south and Bayfield in the west. Every year in April District A 15 brings all the clubs together to celebrate the achievements in local communities, manage the larger District projects and connect with the International efforts of the organization. Local Lions Clubs get their Charter and by-laws from the District. Lions is a democracy. The slogan for this year is “Together We Can”. The District offers extensive training to club officials and support clubs in “community service” and “fundraising” ideas and approaches.

The Theme for this years convention is the “environment”. Saturday afternoon will see the Lions in attendance look at a display of local car dealers exhibiting electric and hybrid models. There will also be a clean up of the area of the Home Depot and Diabetes Strides Walk.

Sunday concludes the convention with a memorial service acknowledging Lions that have passed away during the year. It is also “voting” for District positions and a “cabinet meeting”.

Sponsoring the Convention

Our District Governor,Tony Davidson, (St George Lions) is chairing the convention. We expect roughly 400 people from the clubs that make up the District. Funding a convention of this nature happens in several ways. First, those attending pay a registration fee and top up charges on items like meals, pins, hospitality suites, etc. Second. is a raffle supporting the event. Third, by looking for a sponsor(s).

Sponsors could be club members that run businesses or individuals or businesses that support Lions in our community. Sponsorship dollars will enrich the program and strength the relationship between local clubs and the District. Conventions help develop the “esprit de corp” among the Lions that make things happen in your community. We are suggesting sponsors contribute at one of the 4 levels:

  • $100 Booster, recognition on the White Board

  • $250 Champion, recognition by 1/4 page Ad in the Program & on the White Board
